HB Health Consumer Council
The Hawke’s Bay Health Consumer Council (HBHCC) provides a strong voice for the community and consumers on health service planning and delivery across Hawke’s Bay.
Since its establishment in 2013, Council members, many of who were nominated through community groups and charities, have offered invaluable advice and consumer perspectives to the board of Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) and Health Hawke’s Bay Ltd (Primary Health organisation) as it works to better meet the needs of our local community.
Consumer Council members have varied backgrounds and areas of interest within the community including women’s health, child health, older persons health, chronic conditions, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, disabilities, rural health, Māori health and pacific peoples’ health.
Meeting mid-monthly, Council members participate in, and comment on, many initiatives to enhance the patient experience. They work together on ways to improve system processes and service integration across the health sector, promote equity and ensure services are organised around the needs of consumers within our community.
Members are appointed for a fixed term (normally two years with the potential for reappointment up to a maximum of three terms).
Each June the HBHCC seeks to fill any vacancies that may arise as members retire. For this reason, we are always looking to find local people with the capability and capacity to contribute to the work of the Hawke’s Bay Health Consumer Council, utilising their skills, knowledge, experience and passion to ensure our consumers have access to the best possible services and care throughout our health sector.
Hawke’s Bay Health Consumer Council meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month (except January) at Te Waiora Room, Hawke's Bay District Health Board Corporate Office, 2nd floor, Cnr Omahu Road and McLeod Street, Hastings, unless otherwise notified.
